Souvenir of Mexico

The winters are rather severe in the upper midwest. I somehow managed to capture about a half liter of a Cozumil vacation in a discarded tequila bottle. I kept it on the window sill, there in Ann Arbor, until one night in February when I drank it down. I woke up the next morning, slightly hung-over... and very tan.

Revelation

Suddenly and without warning, the woman at the pedistal was seized, as if possessed, by a revelation that would never be known to the rest of the world.

Country Call

Is the young woman a country girl whose rural roots beckon to her? Is she a city girl, yearning for the open space of the countryside? Perhaps sheÕs a country girl turned call girl (a midnight cowgirl), or maybe sheÕs just visiting the big city from New Jersey.

The contrasting elements of the urban setting on one side and the rural scene on the other, night and day, garish street light and fresh sunlight, concrete and grass all add to the surreal nature of the young woman's world. The diagonal of the building corner mocks her pose and the halves recede into boundless open countryside and urban confinement respectively. Is she aware of the other half of her world? From her position, she should be able to see the edge of the grass and the gravel road, but is she free to round the corner if she would care to?

Woody, California Dreamin'

This little toy Woody is dreaming of one day growing up.

The toy car and beach scene were photographed separately and combined digitally. Sizing and shadows were adjusted. The overall print was manipulated to render a high-key image with bright colors. All modifications of this montage were performed on a Mac G4 using Photoshop software. The print was made, using an Epson Stylus Photo 1200 6-color printer.

Salome with the Head of St. John the Baptist, Fries and a Coke

As a reward for dancing before King Herod, Salome requested and received the head of St. John the Baptist, served on a plate (Matthew 14:3-11). In this updated version, Salome is in the employment of Herod's Drive-In. She is seen skating toward a waiting table, carrying her prize on a charger, along with a medium drink and an order of fries.

The composition was created from five images. All but the head and sky were B&W photos. Placement, colorization, sizing, creation of the neon sign, drawing and posterization were performed in Photoshop on a Mac G4.
